Sigur Ros Reveals Plans for 2012 Tour
Sigur Ros front man Jonsi Birgisson has announced that the ethereal Icelandic outfit has plans to tour Australia later this year.
Laying to rest rumours of a possible break-up, the principal songwriter told Drowned in Sound they're "doing a short North American tour and a few European dates as well as the festivals, then we're off to Australia". Jonsi doesn’t specify exactly when this will be, so your guess is as good as ours. The important thing is they're coming.
The last time we got to experience the cosmic wonder of Sigur Ros was back in 2008 when they appeared at Splendour in the Grass. Jonsi was also part of the festival bill in solo mode back in 2010.
Sigur Ros release their new album, Valtari, on May 28. While we wait with bated breath for new material, Jonsi has also said fans of their older material can expect to hear "some songs that we haven't played for a long time on this tour".
We will keep you updated when the dates are made official. In the meantime, here's a Sigur Ros classic.
