Red Hot Chili Peppers for 2013 Big Day Out?
As it creeps closer and closer to the Australian festival season, we see a myriad of illegitimate rumours circulating around the interwebs. Whether it’s Nirvana, Prince, Radiohead, Blink 182 or The Stone Roses, legendary names are always chucked in the rumour mill or fun, and with maybe just a little bit of wishful thinking. But this time, one of the regularly buzzed bands might just be a genuine chance for a summer appearance in 2013.
That’s right, Red Hot Chili Peppers look destined to be heading to our shores early next year. This not-quite-a-rumour stems from one of the members themselves, with Flea letting slip in a tweet that the band will be “coming to Australia early next year” and that he “can't wait to feel the connection to [his] birthplace once again”.
Putting two and two together, the tour news puts the Chilis as early contenders to headline next year’s Big Day Out. Supported by the fact that they’re due to headline Lollapalooza in a couple of months – BDO’s latest headline partner – this seems pretty genuine.
Although we can’t yet take this as gospel, the band are definitely due for an Australian visit, their last one being five years ago, back in 2007.
