Program Announced for Festival of Voices
With so many exciting events on the calendar, Tasmania is increasingly developing into a thriving cultural hub, and the
Festival of Voices taking place this July is no exception.
Held in and around the beautiful heritage Salamanca precinct, the festival is Australia's premier event celebrating the vocalist and the power of song. The just-released program will feature award-winning local and international acts across a diverse range of genres, from cabaret to choir and ensemble singing, spoken word, debate, poetry, storytelling and hip hop.
Contemporary folk group Moira Smiley and VOCO will give a haunting one-off performance at MONA for
'Angel Story’, using improvisational story skills to create a captivating piece that's sure to be a heavenly experience.
Set up in City Hall, the candlelit cabaret bar Voicebox will be filled with the incredible vocal prowess of local sweetheart
Katie Noonan (of George fame), as well the “outrageously bitchy and rude”
Michael Griffiths for
‘In Vogue: Songs By Madonna’.
Hobart’s Musical Crew will perform an updated version of musical favourite FAME at Playhouse Theatre and the final event of the festival, ‘Food of Love’, will close off Elizabeth Street to make way for a lantern-lit Long Table, to which friends and family are encouraged to bring along a picnic and enjoy the replacement of cars and buses with a motley crew of vocalists, poets and special festival guests.
The Festival of Voices runs from July 6 - 15. Check out the full program on
