Prince's Final Australian After-Show
Prince's tour DJ Rashida first fed the rabid Prince-aftershow-chasing hounds before the band had even hit Rod Laver Arena,
tweeting that the Prince tour crew would be celebrating at the Hi Fi Bar after the show.
And now – with Prince still playing his encore – it's official.
The Hi Fi's website has posted a gig listing for the official Australian tour afterparty, and while no-one is saying anything about whether Prince and the NPG will actually play, you'd have to think that signs are looking good.
Sydney and Brisbane both had official ticketed after-shows but Prince left Melbourne fans chasing rumour and hearsay after both his first two Rod Laver Arena concerts, choosing not to play aftershows while he fought a cold. Then, two days before his final Australian concert, he popped up
on Monday at Bennett's lane for a show that was kept genuinely secret until an hour beforehand. Catching music journalists and industry types absolutely on the backfoot, he played to 100-odd lucky punters made up of the hardest of hardcore fans, and a few folks who happened to be there anyway.
Tonight, Punters are taking no chances, and as early as 10pm a line stretched almost to Collins Street, with hundreds in the queue before Prince had even left the stage at Rod Laver.
There's still no official word that the man himself will definitely be playing the Hi Fi, but who are you going to listen to?
His chef, or the voice in the back of your head saying you'll risk missing a show to tell the grandkids about? Word from the queue is there's band equipment being unloaded as we type...
