So remember when
Sigur Ros frontman, Jonsi Birgisson,
announced a coupla weeks back that the Icelandic outfit plans to tour Australia later this year? And then you tried to keep your excitement contained until it was confirmed? Well, you can finally let it out, as today Jonsi has confirmed that the euphoric group will definitely be in the country in November this year.
Confirmation of the tour has come through an interview that triple j’s Zan Rowe conducted with the lead vocalist and principal songwriter a couple of days ago, which was played on air this morning. Questioned as to whether the band’s rumoured Australian appearances were true, Jonsi replied with “That is true, that is confirmed” before stating that they would be heading here in November.
This announcement comes days after the band’s latest album,
Valtari, was
put up on the net for a worldwide listening party, which has since received rave reviews. Jonsi also mentioned that they will be only playing about four songs from the new LP, leaving plenty of room for some epic Sigur Ros classics.
The tour doesn’t look like the act's largest, as they are only planning on around 30 shows for the year – but there is already great speculation that they'll be hitting Australia just in time for
2012’s Harvest Festival dates (Nov 10-18). And with the festival lineup due out very soon, it wouldn’t be any stretch of the imagination to assume that Sigur Ros will be sitting in a headline spot.
Now all you have to do is save your cash and wait for the show dates to be released.
