New Snakadaktal Video and August Tour Dates
While their name sounds like someone trying to form an AC/DC tribute band while experiencing the special brownie munchies,
Snakadaktal are nothing if not self-assured, dreamy pop producers – teenage darlings of triple j punching out hit after hit.
Since winning triple j Unearthed last year, Snakadaktal have been riding the wave, propelled by their steady stream of releases. Their first, ‘Chimera’, helped them win the competition, and their second, ‘Air’, became a triple j staple, as well as the first track played on the newly launched Unearthed radio station.
And so follows the newest single, ‘Dance Bear’: on the strength of the track alone an August tour has been announced, and the band will be headlining some pretty big venues. This tour - which takes the quintet through Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Melbourne - will be the last opportunity to catch them for a while, as they’re preparing to knuckle down and create their debut album. Joining them on the road will be Sydney outfit Sures, who are busy building their own loyal following via their blissed out guitar-driven surf pop.
We all love us some wunderkinds, and with ‘Air’ written while the band were completing VCE, it’s not hard to garner why there’s such a fuss. ‘Dance Bear’ follows their previous singles, presenting pop with conviction and hooks that sneak up on you and leave you wanting more.
While admission from the band that they’re “nerve-wracked” makes you remember just how new to the scene they are, it’s clear that though they’re young in aggregate age, their handle on pop is pretty damn firm.
