Bluesfest 2013 Lineup feat. Iggy & the Stooges

Dubstep kids fist pump. Metal maniacs raise the devil’s horns. Tweens scream. But what exactly do fans of the blues do to show their appreciation at gigs? Knee slap? We’re not quite sure, but whatever it is they’ll be doing heaps of it at next year’s Bluesfest when the likes of Ben Harper, Santana and Iggy & the Stooges headline the Byron Bay festival.

The first official Bluesfest lineup announcement for 2013 has landed and it’s easily one of their biggest yet. Returning to the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm for the 24th time, the festival will celebrate the twelve-bar in all its glory from March 28 to April 1, with a diverse selection of artists and performers.

Leading the bill is singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and all-round top banana Ben Harper, who’s making a welcome return to Bluesfest alongside his band. Wielding his intoxicating mix of blues, folk, soul, reggae and rock, we can already see the sea of lighters and gunja smoke that’ll fill the air when he takes the stage.

The term ‘legend’ gets tossed around like a pair of socks in the wash these days, and there are very few who can live up to the title. But then there’s Santana: the living, breathing personification of legend. Led by the orgasm-inducing lead guitar breaks of Carlos Santana (#20 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list), the outfit will make their first ever appearance at the festival, injecting some Latin spice and good time vibes into the festivities.

And while we’re on the topic of legends, can we please get a drumroll? Ladies and gentlemen, returning to Australia in March 2013: IGGY POP & THE STOOGES! A.K.A The Godfathers of Punk. Please excuse us while we hyperventilate.

If that wasn’t enough, Bluesfest will also welcome the Steve Miller Band, Chris Isaak, Wilco, Bonnie Raitt, Dropkick Murphys, Glen Hansard with the Frames, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Newton Faulkner, William Elliott Whitmore, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, Grace Potter, Paying for Change and Ben Caplan.

This is only the first of four planned lineup announcements to be released in the coming weeks. Stick with us for the updates.

Bluesfest takes place from March 28 – April 1, 2013, at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, outside of Byron Bay. Tickets are on sale NOW via
