Someone wise once said that rules are made to be broken. That someone could well be employed by Homebake, as for the first time in almost two decades they've decided to go with a non-Australian act for their headliner. That someone (or more accurately, someband) is Blondie, who have been granted "honorary visas" for Homebake. It's not just Blondie bringing the controversy this year, with the second headliner announced being a comedian; Tim Minchin. Plus, did you notice that Angus and Julia Stone are performing as separate solo acts? Ooooh! Whose team are you on? Angus hasn’t sung a tune from Grease, so …

Apart from those surprises, Homebake will mostly remain the festival you know and love (let’s forget about that cancellation in 2010) - still held mid-summer in Sydney’s historic Domain, and still with a swag of great Australian and New Zealand acts.

So if 2012 could be the end of the world as we know it, lets take a look at why this year’s Homebake is an excellent way to end your days.

Blondie

Easily the most iconic blonde since Marilyn Monroe. Does Debbie Harry age?

We also think Kimbra could do a better job than Lily on a duet of ‘Heart of Glass’ ... just a suggestion.

Tim Minchin

Bringing the comedy to the festival this year will be multi-talented funnyman Tim Minchin. Don’t let him near your kids.

Daniel Merriweather

Returning home after a successful stint overseas, Daniel is apparently ‘the voice’ of Australia (umm, wasn’t there a TV show to determine that?).

Hilltop Hoods

Still helping us feel that bass when we make love, these guys are always reliable festival standbys (and helped make poverty history, which is rad).

Kimbra

Who do you know that creates beats as thick as her fringe? This girl, that’s who.

Something for Kate

This guys are far more talented than just being the soundtrack to our adolescence.

Homebake will be held on Saturday 8 December at Sydney’s Domain. Tickets are $99 +bf, on sale Thursday 16 August at 9am. For full details check out homebake.com.au.
