Top Fives with the Rubens

INTERVIEW

Top Fives with the Rubens

Since chattin’ to the Rubens last year, their popularity has picked up speed. They slowed down for a couple of minutes to let us know what they’ve been up to and to answer some pretty important Top Fives.

Anna Horan: It’s been a pretty huge six months for you guys since Everguide last caught up with you, what’s the craziest thing that’s happened in that time?
Sam Margin: We were skating to the shops in New York to buy beer and celebrate our signing to Ivy League Records, our guitarist Zaac hit a crack in the pavement and went down hard! He ruptured his spleen and spent 4 days in hospital. Pretty crazy.

AH: What have you always wanted to say in an interview?
SM: We'd probably like to tear into some bands out there who are making terrible/lazy music. But that just would not be proper.

AH: What do you always ask/always wanted to ask for in your rider but never get?
SM: We always ask for an extra bottle of Jameson whiskey. At first we never got it. But now venues are being more generous.

AH: You had a pretty cool video for ‘Don’t Ever Want To Be Found’, what are your Top Five Music Videos and why:
SM: No particular order. It was a struggle to come up with 5!

1. The Black Keys – ‘Gold On The Ceiling’:

It is the oddest video, but still so cool somehow.

2. Kanye – ‘Can't Tell Me Nothin’

Watching Galifianakis doing a hop hop video is hilarious.

3. Robert Palmer – ‘Simply Irresistible’:

Sexy girls.

4. Fat Boy Slim – ‘Weapon of Choice’:

Christopher Walken is a dude.

AH: You guys are brothers (aside from your drummer), who’re your Top Five Sibling Music Groups and why:

1. Kings of Leon:

We love their music.

2. Oasis:

We love their music.

3. Chemical Brothers:

They're brothers right? Otherwise they wouldn't be called that.

4. The Jackson 5:

MJ.

5. The Scissor Sisters

In the Everguide Eight, you said that the best you were looking forward to Homebake, who are your Top Five Aussie Bands and why:

1. ACDC:

They’re mad rockers

2. Tame Impala:

Inner Speaker was such a great album to listen to.

3. POND:

We like Tame Impala.

4. INXS:

So many great songs.

5. The Vines:

They are good dudes. Great live!
