Computer Love: Future Beats and Machine Music, August 2012
After a month off it’s great to be back at Computer Love HQ (a subsidiary of Everguide Global Enterprises). For the best of what you’ve been missing in the wonderful world of electronica, read on…
First up, in release-land the freebies just keep on coming as the lovely Don’t Be Afraid record label offer up a tasty sampler of unreleased recordings for the price of your email address over at their website,
dontbeafraidrecordings.co.uk.
This is noteworthy because label artist Mr Beatnick has provided one of the tastiest slices of Deep House (Breakfast Techno?) of 2012 in
Sun Goddess although on the aforementioned download, he goes jungle. Go figure.
Also worth the time of your ears are releases by
Falty DL on Ninja Tune, the superb
Rebuild remix compilation from Black Acre Records (which features our own Dizz1, alongside SBRKT and Jon Talabot amongst others), and a brilliant
Deep House EP from Matt Flores on the always reliable Room With A View . But you have to pay for these.
Over on the West Side, the
This Is Nowhere event has been announced and will feature Slugabed amongst others like Ikonika and Tortoise as the Life Is Noise crew take over the Somerville Auditorium at WA Uni. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to be an Asian teenager in the 90’s, download
Mr ‘Bed’s remix of Darude’s Sandstorm over at the Ninja Tune website and relieve all the mainroom Trance magic your Keppa Jeans can handle. Stay tuned to this column for other city dates for these artists, real soon.
This Is Nowhere – 14/10/12 – University of Western Australia, Perth
On the East Side,
Future Classic have announced a mix compilation and some residencies at Goodgod Small Club. The compilation features tracks and remixes from Danny Daze, DJ T, Perseus, Soul Clap, Flume, Softwar, PharaoBlack Magic, Slow Hands, Tigerskin and Worst Friends and will be launched Friday 10th August.
FC@GG = Future Classic at Goodgod – 10/8/12 – Goodgod Small Club, Sydney
Originally, we were going to talk about the i:cube tour, as the Frenchman has a thousand great club tracks on his own, is a one half of Chateau Flight, and was on the recieving end of a Daft Punk remix that I learned to DJ with (true story).
Unfortunatley though, these dates have been cancelled. Gilb'R, the founder of Vertitle Records (and partner in Cheateau Flight and close friend of I:Cube) sent Future Classic this message:
"We are profoundly sorry to announce that I:Cube has had to cancel his forthcoming Australian tour. Some unfortunate family news has deeply affected his personal life and forced him to reconsider his priorities, resulting in the cancellation of several dates of his ongoing tour, including his 4 Australian dates. We will do our best to reschedule the dates as soon as possible."
I:Cube Australian Tour Dates
31/8/12 - Animals Dancing, Melbourne
1/9/12 - Adult Disco @ Civic Hotel, Sydney
7/9/12 – Barsoma, Brisbane
8/9/12 – Sugar, Adelaide
Our friends at Astral People and Yes Please Records have announced quite a tasty shebang in November, called the Outside In Festival, not to be confused with the
Outside In Festival which will feature Smoke Dza, Oliver Tank, HTRK, Shigeto, Jesse Boykins III and many many more across three stages.
Outside In Festival 10/11/12 – Factory Theatre, Sydney
Finally, those lovely and very popular chaps
Seekae have announced an east coast run of shows, because they can. Don’t miss as they squeeze the very last out of their
Dome album and preview some new tracks at these rather intimate shows.

Until next month, turn up the bass and lay low on the treble.
