Event Information

Ballarat is known for a couple of things. Bring the place up in conversation and chances are you’ll hear people mention `Lake Wendouree’, `Sovereign Hill’ or maybe `Eureka Flag’. However, aside from its obvious tourist attractions, the city is also home to some great bands. Epicure’s legacy has gone down in Aussie history books, Hunting Grounds are currently tearing up triple j airwaves and the Yacht Club DJs are notorious party-starters. Nevertheless, there’s another band turning heads at the moment, and that band is Gold Fields.

With a name that pays homage to their hometown, Gold Fields burst onto the indie-rock scene when their bedroom-recorded debut song `Treehouse’ was picked up by triple j and placed on high rotation. With its instant pop accessibility, choppy guitars and soothing vocals, the song quickly garnered the band heated label interest before it was snapped up by London label Young & Lost Club.

Showcase gigs in the UK and spots on the Lorne Falls Festival and Sydney’s Field Day festival soon followed. As word of mouth spread about Gold Field’s energetic live shows, the band found themselves supporting international outfits including dance/noise experimentalists Crystal Castles and Norwegians Datarock, as well as home-grown rockers Miami Horror, Pnau and The Holidays.

Now, the lads are once again preparing to hit the road, this time on a national headline tour in support of their debut, self-titled EP (which drops September 16). New single, ‘Moves’, is already on the radio, and if it’s anything to go by, the EP will be every indie kid’s wet dream.

Along for the ride will be Brisbane garage rockers millions, who have already charmed the pants off audiences at Splendour In The Grass and have been given the triple j thumbs up.

Prepare to strike gold this October/November.
