Most of us have foggy childhood memories of lugging all manners of fold-out chairs, Eskies and picnic rugs to parties, BBQs and camping trips. Back then it felt like a total chore - really, who wants to carry chairs when there's food to eat and games to play? - but today it's a sign that times of eating, drinking and merriment are about to start.
With
Starlight Cinema's 2012 outdoor season returning for the ninth year, jump at the chance to enjoy a bit of fold-out chair nostalgia, catch up with friends, get some fresh air and maybe even see a movie or two while you're at it - without the hassle it seemed as a kid.
Opening night kicks off with Woody Allen's
Midnight in Paris, with the rest of the season boasting a bang-up blend of new, classic and art house films such as
We Bought a Zoo,
The Descendants and the delightfully romantic-yet-cheesy
The Notebook.
Feel free to bring your own rugs, cushions, beanbags or any other seating device you can think of, or for a bit of extra cash, Starlight will save you the effort, with the Crust Lawn Lounge and the ME Bank Star Class offering up reserved seating and food packages.
Starlight 2012 runs from January 18 - March 4 at the North Sydney Oval. Tickets are available at
