Short of having all of those behind newly-released collaborative track 'Do Ya Thing' appear at its launch party, iconic sneaker brand Converse delivered an international-level event with one drawcard name:
LCD Soundsystem.
Whilst the arrival of the duo wasn't exactly a surprise to either press or most of the partygoers (let's be honest), from the beginning small details like QR codes announcing the "surprise" act heralded the launch of a big-budget brand party.
Of course, along with the brand budget comes branding, but with a label like
Converse this just resulted in the radical: social photographers and models galore, Asian-themed canapes from the ever-hyped Miss Chu, cocktails with a weird spicy flavour and, of course, sneaker displays. They were after all what we were there for.
Held in little light boxes, the adorned, trashed and camouflaged sneakers were triumphed by wall decals of the cartooned band, Gorillaz, who comprised one third of Converse's 'Three Artists. One Song' series that 'Do Ya Thing' is the result of.
The other third,
Andre 3000, was also sadly not present (if they were we would have officially lost our shit), but producer and DJ James Murphy, the mastermind behind LCD Soundsystem and DFA Records, significantly repped the project with solid tunes. Here's the final result below...
