If you've ever set foot in Melbourne, chances are you've boldly ventured down one of its many alleyways - be it to eat and drink in an intimidatingly cool hidden bar or restaurant, or for a cheeky little 'we're uni students and can't afford anything but Bowler's Run' pre-drink.
Regardless of the reason for your alley wandering, chances are you've noticed a butt-load of graffiti covering the walls. Maybe it's just us, but we'd much rather go down an alley covered in well-designed, flipping cool murals than one covered in tags with spelling at a primary school standard.
On that note, we'd like to thank contemporary artist and painter
James Reka, who has been beautifying Melbourne's side streets for 10 years (as well as many walls and galleries, both interstate and overseas - even the
National Gallery of Australia has acquisitioned his stuff, so he's pretty legit).
Reka has a new exhibition coming to
Backwoods Gallery in Collingwood, which we highly suggest you check out. There aren't a whole heap of details yet, but he did release a pretty cool teaser video of him being hosed with paint repeatedly. Who can resist that?
'Primary Suspects' by James Reka will be exhibited at Backwoods Gallery from March 2 - 18. More information will be released on
Facebook shortly.
