Shooting young skaters from all around the globe, Scottish-born photographer Nikki Toole brings her intimate series of portraits to the Canberra's National Portrait Gallery.

Fascinated by the forces that define the identity of the lone skateboarder, Toole asks her subjects to enter into the meditative state they express to being in when skating.
